EFOW is a Brussels-based organisation representing wines with an Appellation of Origin and Geographical Indication from the European Union.
GI SMART is a four-year research project designed to provide evidence-based recommendations to enhance the role of Geographical Indications (GIs) in fostering sustainable territorial development and achieving the objectives of the EU Farm to Fork strategy.
AREPO, EFOW and oriGIn EU have published their report on the outcomes of the Geographical Indications Conference: a producers’ vision for the EU Action Plan on GIs & the launch of the GI SMART community platform, held in Brussels on 25-26 June 2025.
EFOW welcomes the outcome of the political trilogue on the wine package and expresses its sincere gratitude to the European Commission, the European Parliament, and the Danish Presidency of the Council for their constructive engagement.

EFOW (the European Federation of Origin Wines) and DWV (the German Winegrowers’ Association) together with MEPs Paolo De Castro (S&D), Alvaro Amaro (EPP), Irène Tolleret (RE), Adrian Vazquez Lazara (RE) and Claude Gruffat (Greens) organised a seminar in Strasbourg to exchange on the revision of Geographical Indications (GI).
