Press Release | EFOW welcomes Deutscher Weinbauverband e.V. (DWV) as new member

Brussels, 3 December 2025

The European Federation of Origin Wines (EFOW) is pleased to announce that the Deutscher Weinbauverband e.V. (DWV) has joined as its newest member. The announcement was made during the DWV Congress held in Mainz from 1 to 3 December. DWV’s membership will strengthen EFOW’s work in advancing Geographical Indication (GI) wine policy and supporting GI producer groups at the EU and Member States level. Germany’s long-standing wine traditions and active producer community will further enhance EFOW’s ability to promote and protect origin wines across Europe and in third countries.

Mr. Riccardo Ricci Curbastro, President of EFOW, stated: “The addition of DWV to EFOW is a significant step forward for our federation which has become a key stakeholder in the debates on EU wine policy. It greatly reinforces our representativity and will allow us to ensure that the voice of GI wine producers is heard and that our shared objectives for quality are advanced at the European level.

Mr. Klaus Schneider, President of DWV, explains: “Joining EFOW is a strategic decision for DWV, as it allows us to fully establish and represent the interests of German GI producer groups. This partnership will help us maximise the benefits of the EU’s quality policy for German wines, ensuring our producers can thrive in a competitive market.
